Calcutta's north-south orientation makes it easy to take the Metro to most of the attractions that it has to offer. Calcutta's Metro is by far the most efficient mass rapid transit system in this part of the world, and compares more than favorably with some of the best in the world. Click on each of the stations to know about the nearby sights and transfer points. I wish I could give you more specific information regarding timings as well as tickets but I have not had occasion to visit the city since 1996. The timings at that time were probably from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the tickets were INR (Indian Rupees) 2, 3, 4 or 5 depending on the zones you traversed.
